Entry #7: Favorite Time To Read

In high school, I read whenever I had a spare moment.  On a normal school day, I would wake up, get myself some juice and cereal in the kitchen, bring it back to my bedroom, and read in my bed for 10-15 minutes.  It was nice and cozy in bed and a great start to the day.  I would also read during study hall if I didn’t have other homework to complete, and I would read for 30 minutes to an hour before going to sleep—even on nights when I stayed up really late doing homework.

Throughout college and the start of my career as a teacher, I continued to read before bed—even if it was late at night.  I couldn’t fall asleep unless I had read a few pages of a book.  It helped take my mind off whatever I was stressing about during the day.  I could get caught up in someone else’s life and fall asleep dreaming about what would happen next in the book.  Reading at night has become even easier with the help of my Kindle Fire.  I can read in bed without the lamp bothering my husband.  I can turn the brightness on the screen down and read far into the night.librarycheckout2

The best time for reading is definitely SUMMER.  As a teacher, summer allows three months to read whatever I want to read.  I can devote a lot of time to a book, and am a frequent visitor to the library.  I read over twenty books during the summer of 2013.  It was fabulous!  Check out the image to see a few of the titles I read this summer.  You’ll notice that there’s a variety of Young Adult literature, Nonfiction, and Adult Fiction texts.  How many of these titles have you read?
